Series of pictures with music of the construction of my 2007 Little Red Riding Hood themed costume. It was my first attempt ever at making a costume, I'll post a full suit video sometime soon.

It’s funny because the masquerade mask you start the costume with is in french called “un loup” (”a wolf”)

I used foam sheets …
I used foam sheets and a hot glue gun to glue them together. you can get the foam sheets almost anywhere. once I got the basic structure together i used lightweight modeling clay – crayola brand to form the more rounded shapes. remember to make the structure smaller because the fur is pretty thick and bulks out the final result.

Check out …
Check out gryphern’s videos, she’s really awesome at all this stuff and very informative. There’s a video on her page that shows how to make the stilts. I really don’t know where to get the foam, I found some laying around in the factory at my work, I did however use the spray foam insulation to make the feet. It’s only a few dollars so try it out.

Yes you can! Just …
Yes you can! Just make them out of cardboard or something first. That way you have patterns to reference.

If you are familiar with CAD software, you can make a virtual prototype and print off the patterns. That’s actually what I did.

I was looking it up …
I was looking it up online and found a few online stores that still sell it, but what about Translucent Liquid Sculpey? It’s an opaque fluid kind of like white glue, and its bakes slightly clearer than white glue dries. I’ve used it for small pieces, once bought a gallon jug and made a huge Sculpey peel-away stained glass window. You can oven bake it, or heat set it using a heat gun then oven bake it a little bit more. The big chain stores are carrying it. Urethane varnish, or nail lacquer, too.

I’ve never tried …
I’ve never tried anything else (this is all new to me) but I can’t find it anywhere anymore, do you have any recommendations?

beelzebubba666 August 2, 2009 at 8:06 pm

I don’t typically …
I don’t typically use a certain brand of clay, just any lightweight or foam clay. As far as sculpting the foam sheets, just play around with it.

hedorah99 August 2, 2009 at 8:06 pm

How hard was it to …
How hard was it to shape the foam like that and what brand clay did you use?

gryphern August 2, 2009 at 8:06 pm

Your teeth are …
Your teeth are gorgeous, that’s really really nicely done. I’ve seen, but previously ignored, Sculpey Gloss Glaze when at the store–now I’ll have to pick some up and try it.

beelzebubba666 August 2, 2009 at 8:06 pm

yes it does and you …
